The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
