The ice cream brand's Co-Founder States Unilever Prevented Pro-Palestinian Frozen Dessert Flavor

One of the original creators behind the famous frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has claimed how parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the introduction of an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the business with his partner, disclosed that he plans to personally create this new flavor as part of a personal series highlighting issues Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Ongoing Conflict Between Founders versus Corporate Owner

The recent announcement deepens the ongoing conflict among the world-famous ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods corporation which has owned the ice cream brand for over two decades.

The co-founders have asserted that the parent company and their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company against "maintaining its activist principles".

The Fruit Flavor as an Emblem of Support

The entrepreneur stated through social media that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions for the product's name and potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

This particular fruit has become an emblem of support for Palestinians due to its coloration, that mirror those of the Palestinian flag – red, green, black and white.

Historical Activism plus Current Changes

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in areas occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever transferring the Israeli operation to an Israeli distributor, thus allowing ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming product line will be created through Ben's Best, the activist dessert company which originally created in 2016 to support ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts and Upcoming Plans

Mr. Cohen stated that he will develop other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns which the company was silenced from addressing publicly by Unilever.

This development comes after partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down from the company in September, after decades of involvement, citing concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised following Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.

At that time, Ben Cohen commented how "Jerry has a really big heart and this conflict with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience leads me to keep working within the organization to advocate for its independence ensuring that the company can achieve the social mission, the principles which established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he explained to media outlets.
