Suspected Harasser Questioned: 'But Suppose I Might Be Madeleine?'

A woman accused with pursuing Kate McCann apparently left her a phone message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, 24, who witnesses stated has persistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with harassing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.

On Monday, the court was told phone records and information retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt persistently asking Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout the past two years.

Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a trip in Portugal - is one of the most publicized missing child cases and continues to be open.

'I Don't Want Money'

A separate phone message, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I feel what I believe."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "What if there is a tiny probability that I am Madeleine? What happens next? Wouldn't that be significant for you?"

"I don't want money, I maintain a living here in Poland, I just want to know," the message continued.

The panel was advised that through electronic messages, text messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a bid to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a youth with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, a data specialist with law enforcement who compiled the information, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, as per the call data.

On that date, the father responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "incorrect contact information."

During that incident Ms Wandelt recorded a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will persist and I will prove my position."

The court learned the co-defendant struck up a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to joining her on a visit to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in last December.

Phone records demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated using communication app to Mrs McCann to state the media had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be taken seriously in the period leading up to the trip to Rothley, the county, in last December.

The court learned communications between the two defendants, in that autumn, discussing endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from cutlery at a eating establishment.

"We have to assert ourselves," Mrs Spragg told Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the trip to their house, the defendant sent a text which said: "We are sat outside the McCanns' residence with our headlights off like private investigators. I desired to accomplish this with another person I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
