Combatants laugh as they ride on the rear of a pick-up truck, racing alongside a row of several dead bodies and driving in the direction of the sinking African sunset.

"See this extensive accomplishment. Look at this ethnic cleansing," one shouts.

The fighter grins as he points the camera on his person and his companion combatants, their Rapid Support Forces identification clearly shown: "The victims will all be killed in this manner."

The men are celebrating a mass killing that relief organizations believe resulted in the deaths of in excess of thousands of civilians in the Sudan's metropolis of el-Fasher during October.

A Community Isolated from the World

Following their control of the urban area under siege for approximately two years, from late summer the militia advanced to strengthen its position and restrict the remaining residents.

Space-based imagery reveal that forces started to erect a immense sand wall - a elevated earthen wall - around the edges of the city, closing entry points and halting relief supplies.

As the siege escalated, seventy-eight civilians were killed in an paramilitary attack on a mosque on 19 September, while the United Nations reported dozens more were murdered in drone and cannon strikes on a refugee settlement in October.

Graphic Recording Reveals Unarmed Individuals Executed

In the early morning on 26 October the RSF overwhelmed the last government strongholds and seized the central headquarters in the city, the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division, as the army pulled back.

Among the most graphic footage to appear and studied revealed the consequences of a mass killing at a educational facility on the western of the urban area, where dozens corpses were seen strewn over the ground.

An older man dressed in a white tunic sat alone amongst the bodies. The individual rotated to look as a militiaman armed with a firearm proceeded descending the steps facing the individual. lifting his firearm, the fighter fired a single shot at the victim, who dropped to the ground still.

"Why is this one yet alive," one militiaman exclaimed. "Execute this person."

Space-based imagery captured on October 26th appeared to confirm that executions were furthermore performed on the streets of the city, based on a study released by the Yale Humanitarian Research Lab.

A key eyewitness who provided testimony said they had observed "numerous of our family members being killed - these individuals were assembled in a specific area and everyone killed."

Militia Officers Try to Conduct Public Relations

In the days that ensued from the killings, RSF leader admitted that his fighters had committed "violations" and announced the events would be investigated.

Part of the detained was following a report documenting his killings. Meticulously staged and modified recording posted on the paramilitary's formal messaging platform reveal him being escorted into a detention area at a prison on the outskirts of the city.

Simultaneously, the RSF and connected digital channels started trying to reframe the account.

Content presenting its militiamen handing out supplies to inhabitants were circulated by several accounts, while the force's communications team shared several clips purporting to demonstrate the humane treatment of army detainees.

In spite of the digital initiative being deployed by the RSF, their actions in al-Fashir have sparked international outrage.
