In the fiercely cutthroat arena of interactive entertainment, it's usual for emerging rivals to fade away as quickly as they explode onto the landscape.
But this new installment is aiming to shift that dynamic.
It's the newest release in a long-running warfare game series frequently framed as a grittier alternative to its main competitor.
The title has seldom been able to match its top competitor in terms of revenue or players, but evidence points to the new installment could close the gap.
A preview session enabling users a chance to experience the game earlier this year broke records, and the buzz leading up to its release has been immense.
However the endeavor is nonetheless a significant venture for publisher Electronic Arts, which has according to sources spent vast amounts of money making it.
We have talked to some of the creators to discover how they expect it will be profitable.
Four studios are developing the title under the Battlefield Studios initiative.
They include long-time creator the Swedish studio, based in Sweden, LA's Motive developers and Ripple Effect Studios in the Great White North.
The fourth, Criterion, is situated in England.
A key leader is the studio head of the both EU-based studios, and tells our team that, in terms of what it's delivering gamers, "the latest installment is probably unmatched."
The new release comes off the back of the sci-fi the previous game, released in the past to a poor response it had difficulty to bounce back from.
"It's likely that we would find it impossible to create and produce the latest entry absent the lessons we gained in the previous title," she explains to the press.
Among those lessons was to involve the community participating soon, and the team initiated closed community playtests not long ago.
Their "feedback was explosively favorable," states she.
A further omitted element from the previous installment was a solo experience, which has been reintroduced in this version.
Criterion project head Fas Salim is the person responsible for "making sure those stages are as enjoyable and interesting as possible for the audience."
Despite reports that the size of the game had challenged the multiple studios working together globally to develop the project, Fas is positive about the endeavor.
"Partnering with varied perspectives, distinct experiences, it's a really engaging environment to be engaged with every day," he explains.
"The complete method has been an innovation but something very inspiring because we are partnering with individuals from internationally."
Concerning the pressure on the developers, Fas says: "We experience stress but at the same time it's motivating.
"This is a major project. It's arguably the largest that most of us have ever been involved in."
This is definitely accurate of no less than an individual staff, VFX specialist Vlad Kokhan.
The recent hire produces the lighting elements that influence the mood, feel, and focus of the solo experience.
He undertook an training period at the studio prior to obtaining a job at the company, and presently is employed on a part-time basis while concluding his VFX degree at the university.
The developer says he's a dedicated enthusiast of the franchise, and recalls playing the previous game of the franchise at a pal's home when he was a child.
To be on it currently, as his initial career position, "seems unreal tangible."
"It's really crazy witnessing the marketing in many places," he comments.
"Understanding that I've put my individual work into the game is really surreal."
The new game's release is expected to be a major one, with experts forecasting it could distribute as many as 5 million {copies|units|versions
