Glasgow Warriors kicked off their Champions Cup campaign in ideal fashion with a crucial four-try away victory against Sale.
Taking advantage of the elements at their backs, Sale started the brighter and raced to a fourteen-point lead within 20 minutes. Scores from Ernst van Rhyn and youngster Ollie Davies gave them early control.
However, Glasgow responded well with a pair of scores before the interval. Forward Hiddleston and back-rower Rory Darge both went over to narrow the gap.
Additional after the break scores from captain Kyle Steyn and centurion Stafford McDowall pushed Glasgow's advantage to 26-14. Marius Louw's try for Sale set up a tense finale, but Glasgow stood strong to claim a significant opening win.
Play began with a bang as skipper Ernst van Rhyn scored from close range after only two minutes. An early injury to midfielder Rekeiti Ma'asi-White introduced 19-year-old Davies into the fray for his European debut.
The youngster made an immediate contribution. Switching to fly-half, he took a smart angle to take an pass and touch down, extending Sale's lead.
Against challenging conditions, the Warriors used their forward power to get back into the game. A strong line-out drive was finished by front-rower Gregor Hiddleston. Prior to the break, Darge barged over, with Hastings' conversion making it a narrow game at half-time.
Glasgow took the advantage for the first occasion early in the second half. A poor kick was gathered by number eight Dempsey, who fed skipper Kyle Steyn to burst through a challenge and race away to the line.
Now in the driving seat, they secured the bonus point when Stafford McDowall powered past a tackle to celebrate his century for the club. That score completed a sequence of 26 consecutive points.
The hosts gave themselves a late hope when Louw showed good skills to score. The kick made it a five-point game with minutes left.
A final chance came for Sale from a line-out in the 22, but they lost the possession, sealing the Warriors' victory.
Sale Sharks must regroup ahead of a trip to face Clermont Auvergne this weekend. In contrast, Glasgow will welcome European giants Toulouse to their home ground.
The two sides are placed in a strong Pool One that also features the English side and Durban-based team the Hollywoodbets Sharks.
