Edwards along with Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates under consideration to succeed the former manager as manager of Wolves.

The previous coach was sacked on Sunday following the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight season.

Furthermore Edwards and O'Neil - each of whom have previous links to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the Wolves leadership.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a possible obstacle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the ex- Luton Town manager - who played more than 100 of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is reportedly enjoys backing from the club directors as they begin the search of hiring a fresh manager.

O'Neil is also emerging as a unexpected candidate, even though he would be a surprising choice given he was released by the club in December last year.

The former West Ham player is out of work which means Wolves would not be required to pay any buyout fee.
