"These professionals are becoming strained," Sean Duffy told a news outlet on the weekend, as certain aircraft were halted on the California shoreline due to staffing shortages.

After the government shut down on October 1st, flight controllers, who are considered critical staff, were instructed to keep doing their jobs without pay.

Over 3,000 American flights were postponed on the weekend, and Duffy stated he anticipates the situation to grow worse.

"I am seeing the stress," Duffy remarked in an discussion on a weekend program, noting that he had spoken to several controllers to hear their concerns directly.
